Well, I have been quite the slacker not having posted anything in such a long time.

But there has been a lot going on. As I mentioned in my last post I have been VERY involved in my son’s hockey.

For those of you who don’t live in a hockey culture let me give you a little background on some of the time commitments that are required for being part of minor hockey.

This past season started in September. I was one of the coaches for the Minor Atom (birth year 1997) Leaside Flames. We had what was called “Open Skates” for anyone that was enrolled in the association and was interested in playing a more competitive level of hockey. This went on for 3 weeks. Eventually we picked the team and prepared for our first games.

We had one practice a week, plus one game a week and every other week we would have an extra “power skating” session in there. Oh, they would also have house league games on Saturdays. So sometimes the kids were skating 4 times a week and we have done this from September to the early April. We would have done it longer if we hadn’t been eliminated from the playoffs.

The tryouts for next season are starting on April 26th. This is for a more competitive level of hockey then James was playing this past season.

Then of course there is the hockey that they are playing during the summer!

It almost never ends.


In between all that hockey there was actually time to do some art.

I am teaching a digital art course this semester and, as a former colleague used to say, I am usually teaching “to the backs of heads”. I trouble shoot what they are doing; “I can’t find my work!”, or “I didn’t save my work!”. There is a lot of time when the kids are working and I don’t really have much to do. I like to draw them because they are sitting still, usually, and often are so engrossed in what they are doing that they don’t notice that I am drawing them.

So here are some of my students.





This is my first submission to the Envelope Collective.

I like the idea of making an envelope into a piece of art. I remember back in my art college days that I would get letters from friends that were elaborately decorated and painted.

I started with a blank envelope and just started drawing. I did erase some but I wanted to try and do it with out preconceptions of what it was going to look like and just draw.
